Glyndebourne Festival — 21 May-28 Aug
Glyndebourne Festival Opera is an annual opera festival that takes place one of the British country house Glyndebourne near small city Lewes. The owner of this country house, John Christie have been a big fun of music and regularly organised opera performances just for friends. When he got married with a singer Audrey Mildmay, he decided to bring it to another level and in 1931 there were the first professional festival that opened with Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro on 28 of May. By 1930 Glyndebourne Festival became one of the most important festival. Now, Gus Christie, John’s grandson continues his legacy.
The importance of Glyndebourne Festival can be compared to the annual Ascot horse racing, such a big social event it is. Apart from opera performances guests can enjoy pleasant dinner or a very British picnic in the beautiful park surrounding the country house.
