A NEW YORK PREMIERE “WHIPPED CREAM”.ABT 2017 Season.

A dollop of delightful whimsy, this thoroughly inventive full-length premiere springs from the imagination of Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky and pop surrealist visionary, Mark Ryden. In this fantastical confection, a young boy overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop, and falls into a delirium. To help the boy escape from his attending physician, the boy dreams of his triumphant rescue by Princess Praline and her court, replete with Princess Tea Flower, Prince Coffee as well as marching Marzipan, concluding in a festive celebration! As light as meringue, Richard Strauss’ score is the perfect inspiration for this all-new production destined to delight ballet fans of all ages.

ABT 2017 Spring Season The Golden Cockerel

A brand-new work specially created for American Ballet Theatre by resident artist Alexei Ratmansky, Whipped Cream makes its deliciously sweet mark in New York this coming May ! Set to the music of Richard Strauss‘ Schlagobers (originally created in 1924 for the Vienna State Opera), and designed by Mark Ryden, the world premiere will take place in Los Angeles in March before residing for a limited period at Metropolitan Opera House. A must-see for dances fans with a sweet tooth who didn’t quite get their fill of the Nutcracker ballet, this candied confection will put a spring in your step in 2017!ABT 2017 Season

New York Premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s Whipped Cream and the Company Premiere of Ratmansky’s Souvenir d’un lieu cher, it was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie.
Guest Artist Alessandra Ferri will perform the role of Tatiana in Onegin on Wednesday evening, June 21 and Saturday evening, June 24. Principal Dancer Diana Vishneva will give her American Ballet Theatre farewell performance in the same role on Friday evening, June 23.

Principal Dancers for the 2017 Metropolitan Opera House season include Stella Abrera, Roberto Bolle, Isabella Boylston, Jeffrey Cirio, Misty Copeland, Herman Cornejo, Marcelo Gomes, Maria Kochetkova, Alban Lendorf, Gillian Murphy, Veronika Part, Hee Seo, Daniil Simkin, Cory Stearns, Diana Vishneva and James Whiteside.

Swan Lake

Set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, this romantic tale of love and forgiveness is often considered the world’s most beloved ballet. With breathtaking choreography, lavish costumes and visually spectacular sets evoking a lakeside Renaissance court, ABT’s production “glides to the forefront of stagings all over the world. The fabled lake of the swans has risen into view, inspiring awe for its mystery and magic.” (The Wall Street Journal)

Giselle
The epitome of Romantic ballet, Giselle is a poignant tale of unrequited love, remorse, and forgiveness. The role of Giselle, often described as the Hamlet of the ballet world, requires an exquisite stylist with daring dramatic and technical skills. ABT’s unrivalled roster of international ballet stars brings Giselle’s mystery and ethereal beauty vividly to life in this universally acclaimed production.

Don Quixote  The stage explodes with one show-stopping performance after another in this feast of choreographic fireworks. Celebrated knight Don Quixote and his devoted squire, Sancho Panza, are positively heroic when it comes to aiding the spirited maiden Kitri and her charming amour in Cervantes’ delightful comedy.

Le Corsaire

ABT 2017 Spring Season Le Corsaire

Discover a treasure trove of virtuoso dancing in the swashbuckling adventure, Le Corsaire. From the Pasha’s dazzling palace to a spectacular shipwreck on a windswept desert island, this exotic fable of a dashing pirate’s love for a beautiful harem girl never fails to delight. Le Corsaire is the perfect showcase for daring and explosive bravura from ABT’s star-studded roster of male dancers.

Onegin
Pushkin’s great 19th-century verse-novel, Eugene Onegin, is interpreted with flawless storytelling skill by John Cranko. With a wealth of magical moments, this compelling tale features an unusual twist of double unrequited love – while the high-handed Onegin at first spurns the young, naive Tatiana, she blooms to become a sophisticated St. Petersburg aristocrat who, in turn, rejects his subsequent advances in a a final crushing blow. Tchaikovsky’s vivid music brings alive the world of Imperial Russia with beauty, drama and passion in this new production.

ABT 2017 Spring Season ONEGIN. ABT 2017 Season

John Cranko’s Onegin will be given eight performances during the Company’s Spring season beginning on Monday, June 19 with Diana Vishneva as Tatiana and Marcelo Gomes as Eugene Onegin. Set to music by Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky, arranged and orchestrated by Kurt-Heinz Stolze, Onegin is based on the verse-novel Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin. Onegin received its World Premiere on April 13, 1965 by the Stuttgart Ballet in Stuttgart, Germany. The ballet received its Company Premiere by American Ballet Theatre on June 1, 2001 at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York with Julie Kent (Tatiana), Robert Hill (Onegin), Vladimir Malakhov (Lensky) and Maria
Riccetto (Olga). This new production, with sets and costumes by Santo Loquasto and lighting by James F. Ingalls, was premiered by the National Ballet of Canada onJune 19, 2010 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Toronto, Canada and was first performed by ABT on June 4, 2012 at the Metropolitan Opera House. Le Corsaire is staged for ABT by Reid Anderson and Jane Bourne.

The Golden Cockerel

Based on Alexandre Pushkin’s folktale, The Golden Cockerel was the hit of Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes season in 1914. Alexei Ratmansky creates rich characters for the seductive Queen, a marvelously gullible King and the darkly magical cockerel – all set against a kaleidoscope of vibrant color that evoke a mythical Russia. ABT 2017 Season
