World premiere Einojuhani Rautavaara : The Mine
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, two special works are being presented on the stage of the Opera House on a single night. The first is an outstanding creative work by contemporary Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara. The Mine is inspired by the events in Hungary in 1956, it depicts a community revolting against dictatorship through the story of workers trapped underground by a mine collapse.
In addition to the musical work from Finland, the gala world premiere of a new Hungarian opera will also be taking place of the work that won the Opera’s competition to create an adaptation of the film Love, by Tibor Déry, Károly Makk and Péter Bacsó. With sure-footed skill, young composer Judit Varga creates her own world, which, while naturally strongly influenced by Déry’s novellas and the Makk film, provides a new generation’s take on the history from the ’50s.
